So, I was watching The Last Jedi which when I saw it in the theater I came away thinking it was one of the most insipid movies I had ever seen and it killed the franchise.
Watching it now via streaming I can see what they were trying to do... Star Wars was always about those movie serials from matinee times back in the 30s and 40s.
The stories were always pretty basic when it came to plots but they were entertaining.
What The Last Jedi was doing was that they were thinking about writing a good Star Wars movie but not a good movie.
The movie that preceded this one felt like a remake of the original Star Wars if a little bit updated. This one had a casino scene (think cabaret scene from the first movie) and cast a whole bunch of folks in very specific roles to meet the m...
Star Wars left the building for me with the Last Jedi.
They worked so very hard to cast it in these ways that had nothing to do with story but more to do with political correctness.
Do me a favor, concentrate on story FIRST, then worry about other things.
It’s kind of disappointing in its way that they did that.
I’m not saying that George Lucas second trilogy was all that great but it did have Liam Neeson and Ewan McGregor in it which I have to say was brilliant and probably the best part of the whole trilogy.
The Han Solo movie was good even though it didn’t get great reviews and now that I think about it, wouldn’t you think by now these dopes would have arrived at the point where they realized filling in Princess Leia’s backstory would make for a good couple of movies?
